Nowra Fishing Report | June 20, 2023

Rivers & Lakes

As we bust out the extra layers there is no doubt the weather has certainly cooled off, however the action on our local waterways is certainly heating up with great reports all round.

On the Shoalhaven River anglers are enjoying a good run of Mulloway probably due to a period of very little rain allowing the river to clean itself up inviting healthy amounts of baitfish into to the river. Most success has been on either live baits or Soft Plastics such as the Zman Minnows.

Your usual bread and butter species such as Bream and Luderick have been on the chew and plenty of Tailor at first and last night. Reports have also been circulating of salmon venturing right up the river past the new Nowra town Bridge and just like tailor they are suckers for metal lures like the good old Halco Twisty.

On the Basin the have also been a few lucky anglers taking some nice Mulloway on lures including deep divers. Still the occasional snapper hitting the deck and those XOS Tailor are still terrorizing the Basin.

The Rocks & Beaches

After a sensational season on Pelagics with everything from Salmon and Bonito too Marlin and Longtail Tuna the ocean temperatures have cooled and these targets have migrated north. Still a great time of year to soak a live bait for a Winter Kingfish or work the washes for a feed of Drummer or Luderick all with a chance of watching the Whales pass by on the journey north. Reports have been coming in of some sizable Kingfish and some great drummer bites.

On the Beaches finding Salmon and Tailor is pretty easy and the guys putting in the time in the darker hours have been rewarded with some nice Mulloway catches.

Offshore

The Offshore action has also been pretty hot with some serious Yellowfin and Bluefin being caught already, a positive sign we might be in for some serious Tuna action in the coming months.

Some sizable Snapper have been caught in the past few weeks and some nice Kingfish reports coming from the Banks and inshore reefs.

Snowies

With the Spawn run coming to end this years run produced great numbers and some amazing captures, A positive sign for years to come. All the usual tricks working from lure casting to Egg rolling and nymphing.

Water levels were high on Lake Eucumbene this year so much of the familiar stretches of river were now part of the lake. With every man and his dog hitting the streams the staff at Boss Outdoor Nowra weren't missing out all heading up and having a great time and landing some nice fish.

If you would like to try this type of fishing feel free to stop into the store for a chat the boys would be more than happy to help you get started.
