Merimbula Fishing Report | June 1, 2023

G’day fishos,

Some great fishing of late despite the cooler weather. Thanks to everyone sending in their photos!

Estuaries & Lakes

Fishing report picture- Zeph catching a good sized KingThe salmon and tailor have been going wild in recent weeks and are being caught in numbers within the local estuaries and lakes. Merimbula and Pambula both fishing very well with fish above the 4 kg mark and 80+ cm being caught. Metal casting lures have been working a treat while pilchards on gang hooks also proving effective.

Luderick (Blackfish) are also about the estuaries and are getting caught on weed / ocean cabbage on a small hook under a float. Aim to fish the change of tide roughly an hour each side.

Mulloway continue to be caught in the lakes with plenty of fish around the 70-80 cm mark. The occasional Kingfish also being caught as pictured.

A reminder that if you come across any Bass and Estuary Perch it is closed season until September and all fish need to be released.

 Beach Fishing

Fishing report merimbulaOff the beach its salmon again  providing the results for anglers.  Bournda, North Tura, Tura, Haycock  and The Pinnacles all fishing well.  Target the deeper channels, with lure  casting or Pilchard baits on a paternoster rig for best results. Sharks have been feeding off the salmon so are also well worth targeting.
Mulloway have also been prevalent off the beaches if you’re willing to put in the effort. Fish are being very responsive to cast lures with multiple fish being caught per session. Fish are coming on at dark and into the evening with the last hour of the high tide providing best results.
Off the Wharf
In addition to salmon and tailor, squid are being caught off both Merimbula & Tathra Wharf. As usual, try dawn and dusk for best results.

Flathead

Good bags of sand flathead are being caught from Short Point up to Bournda Island producing good results with 30 to 40 metres being good depths to target. Move around until you find them.

Reef

Nice snapper caught - Reef fishingSnapper up to three kilos have been taken on the reefs along with Morwong and Nannygai. Good localities at reef edges off Long Point and Horseshoe Reefs. Eden has also been fishing well with Boss Outdoor staff member Mick finding a few reds the other day. Plastics, Micro Jigs and baits of Squid and Pilchards have all been taking their share of fish.

Offshore

Dom with a nice Yellow-Fin Tuna caught off Tathra.Out wide there has been some good action with plenty of Yellow Fin Tuna around the 50 kg mark being caught. Both trolling lures and casting Stickbaits have both been accounting for fish.

Ocean Perch and Blue Eye Cod are also being caught deep dropping.

Get amongst it!
