LOCAL LAKES & RIVERS

Some larger Murray Cod have been caught in the Murrumbidgee including a fat metre plus fish by Brett Perrot. The 9” Irukandji Sicario Soft Plastics did the damage. Rigged with an Owner Beast hook, they can be confidently fished into heavy structure.

Some good fish have also been caught on the surface with the locally made Fisher Native range of handcrafted timber lures. Through wire design and tough hardwood, these lures will withstand a beating!

SNOWY MOUNTAINS

As the Trout River fishing season draws to a close this weekend, there is sure to be a flurry of anglers getting in their final fix for the season. With good flows around most of the mountain streams, there are an abundance of options. The Eucumbene River & The Thredbo rivers will be of most interest as they hold larger populations of larger fish. Some of the smaller streams are still worth a look as there are reports of fish still taking dry flies. This is great to see especially this late in the season.

The lakes will continue to fish well into winter with plenty of hungry fish returning from their spawn. Jindabyne has fished well with a recent Fly Fish Australia competition producing hundreds of fish. Small flies are key in winter. Beadhead nymphs like the Black & Pink Nosebleed in size 14 & 16 have been very productive.

SOUTH COAST

The Snapper have been firing on the South Coast with Stan Liakos and his son Will cleaning up on slow pitch jigs in 80m of water. Multiple fish over 4kg’s were reported. The majority of fish were caught in the afternoon in glassed out conditions.

The inlets are alive with Australian Salmon this time of year and are a fantastic sports fishing option on light spin or fly tackle. Pound for pound, these are one of the toughest fighters. These fish will have your drag screaming. Specimens over 3kgs have been reported and take some stopping!
