LOCAL LAKES & RIVERS

With temperatures plummeting in recent weeks, the fishing in the impoundments has still been productive. Trophy Murray Cod in Googong, Blowering and Burrinjuck have been reported fishing large plastics like the Irukanji 9” Siccario.

Some good Redfin have also been reported in some of the local ponds fishing techniques such as drop-shotting and Texas rigging.

These are great techniques to fish when the water is cold and the fish are sluggish as it allows you to fish your presentation very slowly.

Please feel free to have a chat to our staff on how to rig for these methods.

SNOWY MOUNTAINS

With the Trout Rivers now closed for the season, anglers have been focusing on the Mountain Lakes. In particular, the 2 premier mainland Trout Lakes, Lake Eucumbene and Lake Jindabyne.

One group of anglers reported multiple Rainbows spinning the shoreline of Seven Gates and Yens Bay with fish up to 58cm! Middlingbank has also produced good numbers.

The fish have been closer to the edges as the water has now cooled quite significantly. Bait Anglers have also fared well on Powerbait with some groups catching their bag limit within a few hours.

Lake Jindabyne has produced reports of polaroiding Brown Trout around the lake edges on small nymphs and wet flies. Winter can produce some great sight fishing options around the shores of Jindabyne, weather permitting.

Ideally a bright sunny day with very little wind is optimal.

SOUTH COAST

The Snapper fishing continues to be productive on the reefs around Durras. Fish have been caught on Slow Blatts in depths ranging from 20-40m, and on Soft Baits like the Berkley Gulp 7” Jerkshads in depths shallower than 20m.

Good hauls of Drummer, Blackfish & Bream also reported off rock platforms around Batemans Bay and further South. Berleying heavily is key for these fish as it keeps them active and in a feeding frenzy. They’re a viable option on fly as well as traditional bait fishing techniques.

Flathead are also an option around the wash of the beaches of Tomakin and Broulee. Small Soft plastics like the Keitech Easy Shiner have been doing the damage.
